Scheduling an Emergent Radiological Examination (Inpatients/Outpatients)
Definition: A child who needs to under go an examination
as an emergent case (within the same day or during off-hours,
including weekends and holidays). Please note that only patient related
clinical issues qualify for this emergency process.
Patient discharge issues will not be considered
as an appropriate indication for this emergency process.

A decision for the need of a DI procedure is made and approval
by the attending physician is obtained.
Procedure must be scheduled in CCSS/SCM (inpatients and ED).
A pediatric resident will call the below numbers to schedule
the case. The resident will indicate if the patient will need
sedation or general anesthesia
MRI: 688-5188
Ultrasound: 688-9402 Choose Option 4
CT: 688-4572
Interventional: 688-5127
Nuc. Med.: 688-5610
Main Scheduling: 688-2433
Pediatric Ultrasound: 688-6421
The appropriate DI area scheduler will coordinate the timing
of the procedure based on Radiology schedule and Jeff Agli’s
schedule (if sedation) or the operating room schedule (beeper
370-7359, Anesthesiologist-in-Charge) .
Once the timing was established, the DI coordinator will call
back the pediatric resident and provide that info to her/him.

A decision for the need of a DI procedure is made and a timeframe
is established
A resident will call the business associate of the PICU, 8-2323,
and ask to inform the attending/fellow on call for sedation about
the emergency situation
The attending/fellow on call will coordinate the timing of the
procedure along with the Business associate and inform the resident
about the decision.
Please see attachment for the procedure which the business associate
will have to follow in order to coordinate the emergency procedure.
*Please make every effort to schedule the cases during the day
time. |
Off Shifts (between 4pm and 8am Monday-Friday),
Weekends and Holidays

The following process will be implemented for emergent Pediatric MRI,
CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and Interventional procedures requested
on Off shifts, Weekends and Holidays:
Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, CT and Interventional: Call the Diagnostic
Imaging Emergency Department at
688-2355 for assistance. (Inpatients orders MUST be entered In CCSS/SCM
and for MRI procedures a Safety Screening form must be faxed to 688-3572)

Monday-Friday: Between 4:00 pm to 9:30 pm
Saturday-Sunday: Between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm

Monday-Friday after 9:30 pm:
